cnet reports (click on link for screenshot) that Apple changed Software Update for Windows to mark Safari, and presumably anything else not installed, as
New Software. This is pretty close
to what I originally suggested, but Software Update still leaves new software checked by default for installation. Much better than the original, but I think they should go the whole way and not check the box next to New Software by default.
